About The Project
Development of the Short Mountain Wind Energy Center began in early 2021. Currently, Invenergy's efforts are largely focused on securing permits for the project, conducting all necessary studies to ensure we site our project facilities in the most appropriate and responsible locations, and bringing the project to market through securing a long-term contract.
Over the life of the project, Short Mountain Wind Energy Center is projected to invest millions of dollars in property taxes, landowner payments, employee salaries, and payments for local goods and services, resulting in a significant increase in economic activity in Hardy County. Local schools and county infrastructure will also benefit from the increase in tax revenue.
West Virginia has historically been a leader in supporting energy production for the entire country. Short Mountain Wind is proud to continue that tradition and support the energy industry throughout the state.
American Clean Power West Virginia Fact Sheet
The Short Mountain Wind project is an unparalleled development opportunity for Hardy County, with millions to be invested in the local economy over the life of the project. With its vicinity to large electricity loads that originate from our nation's capitol and surrounding cities, Hardy County will serve as a key market for renewable energy generation.
We take serious our commitment to our local host communities and look forward to continuing to work closely with Hardy County, contributing to the area's economic development, and to providing an additional supply of clean, homegrown energy in West Virginia.
To avoid and minimize impacts to wildlife and other natural resources, we work with state and federal agencies and other interested stakeholders to site, build, and operate our facilities responsibly. This includes robust pre-construction wildlife and habitat surveys, early and often communication with wildlife agencies, and operational monitoring to ensure risk to wildlife is minimized.
All County roads and infrastructure will be left in the same or better condition than they were prior to their use for the construction or on-going maintenance and repair of a wind energy project, and that such repairs will be completed at no cost to Hardy County.
